In sprays and droplet laden gas flows, the spatial, size and temperature distributions of the droplets usually play a fundamental role in process efficiency. Examples are spray drying, spray cooling, spray combustion or flue gas scrubbing. The goal of the present study is to combine the depth-from-defocus (DFD) technique for droplet size and position with phosphor thermometry for droplet temperature. Although both techniques are well-established, several possibilities arise for their combination into a single measurement instrument. In this study a solution with a single illumination source and a dual-camera, dual focal length solution is examined. Results confirm the feasibility of this approach.
