Icing experiments in cloud particle environments are a critical component of airworthiness certification, with icing wind tunnels serving as the primary platform for such tests. To accurately simulate cloud characteristics under flight conditions, quantitative evaluation of key parameters of the particle field generated in icing wind tunnels is essential, including particle size distribution, uniformity, liquid water content (LWC), ice water content (IWC), and total water content (TWC). In this study, a Defocused Shadowgraph Particle Imager (DSPI) was developed to meet the measurement requirements of particle size and concentration for high-speed ice crystals and supercooled droplets in icing wind tunnels. Through experimental validation, the instrument has successfully demonstrated its measurement capability for particle sizes from 10 to 1000 μm, airspeeds from 0 to 130 m/s, and total water content (TWC) from 0 to 10 g/m³.
